BA, MSW, RSW, Focusing-Oriented Therapist in training
Currently I am a social worker in downtown Toronto where I work with adolescents and young adults struggling with addiction and mental health issues. I graduated from the University of Toronto with a Masters in Social Work where I specialized in Mental Health and completed a Collaborative Program in Addiction Studies. I am now taking private therapy clients on weeknights and weekends.
Having known very little about Focusing, I came into Focusing on Borden as a practicum student in January 2016. With Jan Winhall as my mentor and the support of our amazing community, I soon came to discover my own ‘felt sense’ (the inner body awareness or sense of ‘something’).
With Focusing came an entirely new perspective. A deeper understanding of both myself and the therapeutic process. As I continued to learn and grow, I realized that this inner body awareness was the piece I was missing from my classroom experience. Recently completing my placement in May 2016, I could not imagine my work without Focusing. With this, I decided to return as a Focusing-Oriented Therapist in training in hopes of sharing this level of understanding with my clients. Under Focusing on Borden, I am conducting ongoing research in how to incorporate aspects of Focusing with Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) in my everyday work.
